The United States and Morocco share a special relationship. Morocco is one of the United States closest allies in the region. According to the Central Intelligence Agencies World Factbook, Morocco and the United States signed a free trade agreement. Poverty is a major issue and the government is trying to take control of the problem. The government is also trying to increase foreign investment and provide jobs. Tourism is also a tool being used to bring money into the country. The theory here is that if the citizens were able to find jobs they would work. This might make Morocco an opportunity for American companies. Morocco’s need for more jobs and foreign investment might make their market a perfect opportunity to set up a monopoly. A large company could come into Morocco and take advantage of the fact that so many people need jobs.Ref 1
Government is trying to better everyday life for its citizens by improving literacy rates and educating its people on health issues. Morocco allocated approximately one – fifth of its budget to education.Ref 2 The Government provides free education through primary school. Ages seven to thirteen must attend school. Majority of children in urban areas attend school while children living in rural areas struggle with attendance. Attendance is extremely poor for girls living in rural areas. Poor attendance attributes to a low rate of literacy. Students do have an opportunity for higher learning at schools in Morocco such as Muhammed V University which is located in Rabat. The education system is currently being modernized.
Morocco is also influenced by Political Pressure groups. Political Pressure groups are basically a group of people whose leaders are involved in politics but are not running for election. A few of these groups are Democratic Confederation of Labor, Union of Moroccan Workers, and Moroccan Employers Association. Morocco is one of the leaders in the region on women’s rights but it still has room to improve. Another issue political pressure groups are involved in is the treatment of young workers. A company could get the support of one of the major Political Pressure groups to help move their business inside the country. Morocco and the United States have a strong relationship; this could make the country a favorable one to enter. Morocco’s government is taking on roles to fix some of the problems that they are facing. With the help of foreign investment and the government developing jobs economic growth will take place. Education is being stressed more and an effort is being made to lower the literacy rate. They are attempting to make the education system more modern. A better educated people are better off and will attract large companies to come into their market. Morocco and the United States are close allies; this may make it favorable for an American company to set up a monopoly. Everyday life in Morocco is becoming better through the roles of their government, advancement of the education system and the political pressure groups are doing their part by being involved in politics.
