Morocco Fashion

- Moroccan Culture: Fashion
- Like in many places, such as Paris and Milan, where fashion isn’t just a word to describe what you’re wearing, the Moroccan culture has a unique fashion identity of its own. Unlike some it’s neighboring Arabic states, the Moroccan people follow traditions mainly from its Berber origins and still value the same distinct dressings that their ancestors wore. Although you won’t be seeing very much skin or any at all, the Moroccan people appreciate quality and expensive garments.
- In Morocco you will see both men and women in loose fitting garments that are mostly hand made. They are very similar in style but also have some different characteristics. The men in Morocco dress in what is called djellaba, while the women wear kaftans. The djellabas have hoods while the kaftans do not. Both men and women most likely wear leather slippers called baboosh. Women take pride in their appearance and style and purchase these rather expensive items once a year and for special occasions. They enjoy bright colors and extravagant hand beading to distinguish themselves from the neutral color dressed men.
- Furthermore, similar to other Islamic countries, family, honor, and etiquette are very important in Morocco. These values are exuded in their clothes. Women have most of their arms and legs covered and you will rarely see Western influence there. But still they have a fashion world of their own and it’s a interesting aspect of their culture.
