Morocco as a World Power
Morocco is a country that very few people would believe is a world power, and a lot of the reason is because everyone always hears about Great Britain, Russia or even the USA. Morocco is a world power and in the terms of international relations they call it a middle power because it is not a super power; however, it does exert some influence on other countries according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia went further to break down a middle power by explaining how these countries like to be a mediator for conflict in the world in an effort to promote peace. A great example of them serving as a peacekeeper happened when they sent 809 troops to the Congo to assist the United Nations according to Wikipedia. Morocco really proved their middle power during the harsh periods of the cold war. The reason why Morocco would step in during this situation between two great superpowers is because they understand that this issue could cost the world a peaceful environment and it will ultimately impact Morocco’s way of life. Another thing that middle power countries like Morocco are involved in is arms control. There is a Middle Power Initiative that calls for a reduction of arms control worldwide. This demonstrates the philosophies of a middle power like Morocco working on keeping the peace amongst a diverse world as Earth. As you can see Morocco may not be a superpower, by the influence the superpowers with their determination to live in peace. They want their country to be a place that all countries are welcome, and when a dispute arises they are more than happy to be a mediator for both countries. Peace is the Moroccan way, and it really is not a bad way to look at things. They will continue to exert their influence to achieve peace as much as possible. It is amazing to see a country use their power in an effort to promote peace, but the real question is why did they do that. As I was reviewing the history of Morocco in Wikipedia it mentioned how they were initially having issues with human rights when they first became a country. It seemed like the country learned from this, and then they went a long way to correct it and in turn they know use what they learned to influence the world to ensure they can prevent this from happening again.
